Abigayle Mitchell is an associate at Anapol Weiss, where her practice focuses on mass torts.
Abigayle joined Anapol Weiss following a judicial clerkship with the Honorable Stephen W. Morgan of the Lane County Circuit Court in Eugene, Oregon, where she researched and drafted legal memoranda in civil litigation, prepared judgments, orders, and opinions, and helped direct courtroom operations for civil and criminal trials, including jury proceedings, while also training judicial externs.
She previously served as a summer law clerk at the Civil Liberties Defense Center in Eugene, where she researched First Amendment issues involving curfew orders, park-use ordinances, and qualified immunity, and drafted motions for active civil and criminal matters. She also clerked for the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization in Portland, where she prepared asylum briefs, drafted client declarations under the Violence Against Women Act, and assisted with removal defense casework.
While earning her law degree, Abigayle served as a Graduate Teaching Fellow in the University of Oregon School of Law's Undergraduate Legal Studies Department. There, she planned lessons on legal writing, research, and legal topics; evaluated student essays and provided detailed feedback on students' legal analysis and writing style; and helped develop the requirements and curriculum for a new Legal Studies major, including designing the syllabus for a course on legal communication. She also assisted in teaching Immigration, Introduction to American Law, and Criminal Law.
During this time, she served as a Department Steward for the Graduate Teaching Fellows Federation, where she created resources for international students on U.S. immigration law, spoke as a union representative at University of Oregon Board of Trustees meetings on workers' rights and the protection of international students, and served as the graduate student representative on the university's Task Force on Ethical Investment.
Abigayle earned her J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law, graduating 12th in her class (top 9%) with induction into the Order of the Coif, along with a Master's of Science in Nonprofit Management from the University of Oregon. She earned her B.A. in Global Studies, with a minor in Communications, magna cum laude, from Saint Mary's College of California. She is admitted to practice in Oregon.
Outside the office, Abigayle is a former team captain of Saint Mary's NCAA Division I cross country and track programs and serves on the board of the Center for Dialogue and Resolution.
