Joel Feldman Advocates for Stricter Distracted Driving Laws in PA

By: Anapol Weiss

There were nearly 15,000 automobile accidents involving distracted driving in Pennsylvania last year, including 66 deaths, according to PennDOT. Tragically, each crash was preventable.

Pennsylvania has designated April as National Distracted Driving Month, but the effort to end distracted driving in the state does not stop there. Anapol Weiss Shareholder Joel Feldman stood with state Senators Rob Teplitz and John Wozniak at the state Capitol on Monday as they called for further strengthening of the laws on distracted driving.

Teplitz and Wozniak hosted a news conference to push Senate Bill 153, which would ban handheld cell phones while driving. More specifically, the bill would make handheld cell phone use while driving a secondary offense, meaning a driver could be fined if caught while committing another violation. While texting while driving is currently illegal in Pennsylvania, drivers can still hold a phone to their ears.

Feldman is a leader in the nationwide battle against distracted driving. He founded End Distracted Driving (EndDD.org) after his daughter Casey was killed by a distracted driver in 2009. With the volunteered help of trial lawyers, health care providers and other professionals, more than 275,000 people have seen EndDD.org’s scientifically-based presentation.
